Spring Break Blues

So it's that time of the year when you've promised yourself that once exams are over you are going to utilize the break perfectly...just to end up one day before the start of school scrambling around trying to finish all that you've meant to do within the break...

Well, I am currently on spring break and I am actually crossing stuff on my to-do list!!

Here are some tips I've compiled that helped me this time around:-

1-Write a list of EVERYTHING

Like even the tiniest little thing of every task, you have to accomplish.
I personally have a notebook just to write lists of the tasks that are on my mind.
I have found that writing stuff down on paper makes the tasks seem less daunting and the feeling of crossing stuff over is amazing!

2-Break down tasks

If you have to study for a major quiz or exam what I resorted to doing is to break down the portion into 5 slides or a specific number of pages.

3-Remove all distractions

NEVER SAY that you have the will power to resist temptations and distractions. Your will power decreases throughout the day and it is so much mental effort resisting temptations. So it is better to keep the distractions at hay side.

  • Study at a designated spot with your phone switched off and far away.
  • Install StayFocusd or something similar to block social media webistes while you're studying.

4-Plan out some fun activities

At the end of the day, this is your break and it is very nice to be looking forward to a nice poetry night or trying out that new restaurant with your friends.

Have a nice break, everyone !

Say no to Perfectionism!

Have you ever felt like you're in a constant state of being overwhelmed?

Every single time, I find myself scrambling around last minute trying to get things done and I kept on wondering to myself why does this occur every single time? Like every single time ??

Why can't I just get things done and not be in a state of a hurry all the time?

This month of March I came to fully realize the importance of NOT being a perfectionist in life.

Perfectionism is paralyzing.

I realized that the reason I don't jump into doing things is that I fear it won't turn out perfect so I just don't do it at all.
This is no way to live, pursuing perfection is debilitating while pursuing excellence allows you to be on the path of improvement and growth which is the mentally sane thing to do.

On a final note, I would like to point out that settling for good enough is not bad at all.

Book lesson #1

So I was shocked to find out that Ryan Holiday is only 31 years old!. This book encompasses so much wisdom and truth that it deserves a second read.
It's based on stoicism and has examples of how to apply the advice given.

What I loved about this book is how it changed my perspective in viewing obstacles and hardships. The book emphasized on viewing these life aspects as a chance to grow and prosper and shed your old weak self. Becoming tougher mentally is an essential skill that no one teaches you but life.
No feeling is comparable to the feeling of competency and in order to build competency you have to push through the hardships and dig deep within in order to truly benefit.

Life is filled with hardships so not why make it worthwhile?
